Duplicate Emails on Blackberry Handheld Devices

I have seen a number of cases that users have gone to the carriers web site and configured their BES-enabled email account for their device, which has resulted in them receiving duplicate emails.

To resolve this issue:

1. From the main menu scroll to the icon labeled 'Blackberry Setup'
2. Scroll to the icon labeled 'Personal E-mail Set-up' (this will launch a web link to the carriers Blackberry site)
3. Under 'Services' click on 'Email Accounts' (click on open if menu pops up)
4. Locate the Harris.com email address and click on 'Delete' for that account.

Troubleshooting Duplicate Emails on Blackberry Devices

When a user is seeing duplicate email messages on their Blackberry device it is common that the user has setup email for their BES account from the carrier website.

To remove this account from the device:
From the main menu scroll to the icon labeled 'Personal Email Setup,' this will open a link to the carriers Blackberry site.
Under Services click on Email Accounts (Click on open if a menu pops up)
Have the user locate the corporate email address and click Delete.

Multiple BES Servers - Blackberry Administration Service Error - The Application has encountered a system error...

I just finished installing BES 5.0.1 at the second of seven sites. I found that I was getting the error "The application has encountered a system error. Please report this error to the System Administrator. Please return to the home page or login again." when trying to connect to the Blackberry Administration Service (BAS) site and the BAS at the first sight reported the status of our second site as UNKNOWN.
Checking the log file I noticed the following error,

[com.rim.bes.bas.singletondeploymentbarrier.SingletonDeploymentBarrierManagerBean] [INFO] [BBAS-1011] {u=SystemUser, t=5936} isCurrentNodeTheSingletonInNewTransactionLocal CLUSTER:   heartbeat from another server (<SERVER NAME>) is still active, this server (<SERVER NAME>) cannot take over as singleton

You have to modify how BES pings sites. It needs to use TCP instead of UDP. Here's the article that explains how to go about fixing this error.

Troubleshooting Blackberry Handheld Devices

When a user is unable to activate a Blackberry Device with Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) here are a few items to check:

Mobile Network
In the upper right hand corner of the display you should one of the following networks, if not you may need to pull the battery for the device and reinsert it.
ATT: 3G or EDGE (all upper case)
Verizon: EV-DO
Sprint: 1XEVDO

Check connection status:
From the home screen goto Manage Connections > Service Status you should have the following:
Mobile Voice : Available : Mobile Network
Blackberry Internet Service: Mobile Network
Blackberry Enterprise Server: Mobile Network

How is the user trying to execute Enterprise Activation? If they are attempting to use the setup wizard, don't! Have them goto Settings > Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation.

Having settings other than these may indicate that there is an issue with you account. Contact your carrier and have them verify that you account is properly configured.
